From what I understand is that as the sensors are wired in parrallel on a 4 lane start finish
and each sensor on a two lane pb can read a car each
but if the sister sensor is activated at exactly the same time then you get issues

In reality you have to be within milliseconds to get a missed count. And I have never bothered with squeezes as the likelyhood of missing a count is so unlikely and I have not seen one to date when running my 4 lane start.

Riko,
The Putfile links in posts #1 and #11 are not working. At least not for me.

Cheers!

Excellent work. I'm researching a 4 lane digi / analog routed track and this would be an ideal mod.

How would analog mode work with this mod? Just lanes 1 and 2 from the APB with 2 psu's? If I separately powered lanes 3 and 4 would I get lap counting? Would I need analog triggers for 3 and 4 via the external PSU?

From your terminology I would hazard a guess that you are not that familiar with this mod. Correctly done on an APB it would give analogue control by throttle one of lanes one or lane two, and throttle two would control lane three or lane four.
From your description it sounds like you want a Zipp style two lane analogue two lane digital track. This mod is not suitable for that.

All,

Riko sort of started this thread because of me!

Since I did the mod, it has worked perfectly, and that's since 2006 and with two different layouts.

But now it,s time for another layout change....and this mod'd track and PB-Pro + SH set up is now redundant.

I do have someone interested, but if this does not materialise I will be looking for a new owner for it.

PM me if interested.

I'm interested in a 4 lane track which is 'convertable' between analog and digital. Either by swapping out the APB to an analog PB or by utilising the analog features of the APB. The latter option is much preferable as I presume I could still use SSDC for race management.

It sounds from your description as though the active track is chosen via the APB as in standard 2 lane mode. Would the circuit isolation be complete enough for me to apply an external PSU to tracks 2 and 4 (for example)?

I'd also just like to thank you for all your work and previous posts on all things Digital. I've been a lurker on this board since the first digital bases and your posts have helped my understanding and enjoyment no end!!

Clearly people are interested in multi lane layouts for digital and analog. I don't really understand why Honby didn't make it possible to add upto 6 lanes on the new power base when they released it.

It counts 6 cars as it is, it has a lap counter that could have worked for analog and several fully featured RMS's how difficult would it have been to make it expandable!! I think they missed a trick on this

Could we do it

But how many people want more than two lanes? I only know of a handful of people that did the 4 lane mod...

If you could make it 4 lane for both Digital and Anoluge then I would have one

Or even just a plug in / out digital only section so you could use it for 4 lande digital and 2 lane anoluge if that would be easier
as I don't run anoluge much now

Using SSDC there could be a way, but it would involve 2x C7042 as we would 4 separate analogue power section.

Currently if you want to count laps on more than 2 lanes without a PC you have to get DS kit and it is expensive, so if there was a power base so that it could be extended to 6 lanes ran digital and analog I can't see how it wouldn't be an advantage.

I seem to remember RichG saying that during in the development of the new hardware he tried to get them to add this feature and they didn't go for it. I can't really see how is would have added much to the development cost.

In fact I am sure that they could have used some of the moulds from the sportworld track. That had a cable which pluged into the bottom on the power base and ran to the multi lane extension.
