I have also done it and have a wiring diagram for the 4 lane start as long as you don't want to use it in anologue mode.

Follow links in my signature or PM me if you need any further info.

OK Simon,
Just for clarity for both me and the others following this post ...

In your picture there is a connector sticking out of the track. Am I correct in thinking this is the power to link one track to the next or from the track to the respective PB?

I can see the female USB slots on the track and the male USB portions on the respective PBs. So assume they just plug together, right?

Maybe if you could show pics of both how they fit together (i.e. lined up, then together) as well as the underside of the track, you will not be asked to post it again!

Thanks and cheers!

Hi Sealevel,

All of the plastic connectors sticking out of the track and powerbases are power connectors and the sensors B (Blade) and I (ID) are connected via USB cables. Both sensors are needed when connecting to the PBProSH but only the ID sensor is required with the upgraded APB.

I guess what is missing from the picture is the USB cables and the power connector leads. (The powerbase is usually sited about 2 - 3m away from the Start finish between the two monitors at the back of my track)

I mainly just use the APB now, usually with RichG's DisplayPro but have the PBProSH as back up and use SSDC for endurance races with fuel loads.

Thanks, Simon.
I thought the PB plugged into the track directly much like the SCX power strip does. Now I understand that the PB and track are indeed separated by connecting cables.

I still cannot see an easy way to install the USB sockets so I may resort to the RJ45/ethernet socket and cabling. There is a RJ45 socket designed for modular installation to make things easy but your USB connectors are very slick.... just not easy to wire from what I have seen.

Thanks again!
Cheers!

Hi
Rj45 would be easier, just like what exits the pb aux and also used on pitpro.

The crimping pliers are crazy money though, unless I'm looking in the wrong place.

I just go to a local computer supply store that makes their own cables and sells for cheap, and get a finished cable of the length I need. Then I cut it in the middle and solder those to the base and the track, and use a female-female connector in the middle to reconnect the two ends.

SS67, would you mind showing what type of power connector leads you are using?

For the data, Ade and Mr. F. are correct (an improvement on the method shown by Stan, who wired directly from the PB and the track to join at a terminal strip ... see the link in my signature) ... especially since the RJ45 F-F connectors are a dollar in the dollar stores.

Now to look at your nice power connectors!

Cheers and thanks for sharing.

I can't tell you this: I walked around a pound store over here and my mother in law kept asking the price of items.....

Good one, it was actually $1.12 after tax.

Battery Connectors

Thanks Simon. I forgot to think of the RC type battery connectors.
Appreciate the pictures and like Mr. F. says.... "what are the black plugs, and the bigger white thing..."?

Cheers!

QUOTE (MrFlippant @ 9 Jan 2013, 19:58) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Sure, but what are the black plugs, and the bigger white thing in the middle? It looks like you're using elbow tip/ring plugs for each lane's power?

Sorry to cause any confusion here. I was just showing the type of connector I used for the power.

If you just want to supply power from the base to the Start/Finish straight use one cable with those connectors.

The cable shown simply takes the power from the powerbase (1 or 2 outputs) goes into the little box and splits the power into 4 cables that then simply plug into each of my 4 tables to distribute the power evenly. Using these I don't actually need to plug any power directly into the Start/Finish straight.

Image

ss67: any more info on your tables? did you make them? I tried looking in your track thread. They look PERFECT for me so I can get off the floor!

At a shrewd guess ....... they are table-tennis tables ..
Image

It would be interesting to see a close up of your table wiring... I am surprised that a right angle mono audio jack is sufficient for distributing power without a main connection to the S/F track.

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks guys!

The tables were made from table tennis parts & some other timber.

Each table is 1.4m (4 full scalextric straights) by 2.3m.

They are very heavy and I had to source stronger wheels as the original ones couldn't take the weight.

Each table has a socket for power input and then a mini loom distributing power to each section of track that has been secured to the table.

I have done the powered flipper mod and each piece of track has been connected by soldering link wires accross the joins just like Mr F is about to do.

Image

As each table, in fact each section of track is powered individually there are no problems with power or connectivity!

If there is a fault or short you can separate the tables to at least identify which quarter of the track it is on.
