Back in the day, early eighties, the NSCC swapmeet was organised by Mike Pack, think it was he who set the club up, the event was held at Liphook, trader Steve de Havilland had a contact in Spain, so he was the go to guy for getting the Exin cars, wish I'd bought more back then 🤔🤣

Genuinely asking for a friend as it's an easy ten years since I darkened the Woughton Leisure Centre doors and he's asked if it's worth the drive. Is it, as the name would suggest, weighted towards the Scalextric brand and collectors? 🤔

I mean, does it lure in dealers of the better stuff for the racers? You know, the foreign fare and folks like Triplex and theslotoutlet from the Bay of E.

No Wankel, its not weighted at all to Scalextric.
Pre-Brexit it definitely did have foreign stands, there were stands from Europe. Maybe more France and Holland than Spain.
Post Brexit for a while there were none, but I think last year there was a foreign stand.
Regulars include Phil Smith, Roger Barker, Mark Scale, Slot Scenics, maybe Richard (slot outlet) will be there

Slot Outlet won't be there: Richard said "Hi sorry but we no longer do that one ,and many traders also have pulled out of that one."

It used to be 'must go' for me, too, but somewhere between then and now it lost its allure.

Those being pre-Gaydon and pre-Swindon days, of course.

And by "foreign fare" I meant stuff other than the homebrew - Scalextric - not foreigners coming over to sell. Specifically I meant Slot It, Revoslot and Sideways. The latter, I noticed, I only found on the one stall at Swindon. 🤷

Niche is as niche does, as my dear departed mother was wont to say.

Sad times.

True story*.

*Not the bit about me mam. 🤗

Fair comment. Though personally I don’t think Gaydon had much to offer as a “swap meet”. It’s mostly big name traders selling new in box stuff, stuff you can buy any day of the week. It’s not like you find the rare gems of MK days of old by scanning traders tables at Gaydon, not in my experience at least. It has its own value though, of course. A different value.

Coming home from MK was always a time to feel excited about what I’d found and bought, coming home from Gaydon is more about the people you’ve met and the social aspect of it. Maybe the prototypes seen from the manufacturers. Maybe it’s just me.

Well, now, fair comment back at ya. 😁Though personally I've never seen or heard of any 'swaps' being made at so called swapmeets. 🤷

The evolution of the 'swapmeet' into a gathering of big name traders selling new in-box stuff is really what I'm after (hence my original question) because while you can see photos of new stuff, and buy it, any day of the week, you can't see the new stuff in the flesh any day of the week. Not around here, you can't.

Sad, sad times.

True story.

Anyhoo, someone somewhere is probably muttering about thread hijacking so the good news to bank is, I believe, the friend is likely going to the show. Firstly because he just got outbid on eBay and secondly because I did say words to the effect of, 'If you've never been, give it a go and draw your own conclusions.' 👍

It would be useful if, like Robert does for Swindon and Havant for example, to see a list of traders or floor plan with names on tables. Maybe there is one but I'm not a NSCC member in order to see.

David, will you have some Loud Tyres in vintage sizes please? I bought some years ago when still in the UK, possibly from your very first batches; your son was a very persuasive salesman! They stick well.

Richard.

It looks like the Journal containing the 2024 membership cards will not have arrived with everyone before the event, fear not, we will have a membership list so we will be able to verify your membership.

George Turner wasn't at Gaydon last year either, any organised event is totally hit N miss as to what's on offer.
Rarer more desirable stuff isn't around as much as back in the day I've found, but it's still enjoyable to have a dig around the tables.
Very foggy drive down from Staffordshire Moorlands, so many cars on the M1 with no lights on 😲.
As well as three ,Ninco,Scaley,Scx older cars I was pleased to acquire a Protoslotkit Le Mans 1969 908 LH #64 prepainted body and transfer kit.
Roll on Gaydon in May.

Evening all, just a quick post to say I had a great time t'other week! Here's my review by video of the event, I hope it brings back some great memories and for those whom couldn't make it, a chance to see what everyone's talking about.

Enjoy............
