Slot It Mazda 787B - Wing Reinforcement

Been after a Slot It Mazda 787B for a while, and I recently found one at an acceptable price, near mint, boxed, even had the extra flexible wing and spare tyres still in the box! Very pleased to say the least. Handles great out of the box, as you'd expect from a Slot It group c car; but (as has been regularly discussed in the past), the rear wing is sooooo fragile.

I've already broken the support on one side (and that isn't from crashing, just from a lean on a barrier - an unavoidable occurrence on my twisty narrow track). Yes, I could swap it for the basic flexible one, but it looks nowhere near as nice, and the original is glued in, so I'd likely do more damage just by removing it. Not only that, but the flexible one is still mounted to a very flimsy body part so I can't see that lasting long either...

I'm not one for shelf queens, and as pretty as this is, it's meant to race. So I'm trying to think of a solution.

I want to keep the wing but it needs reinforcement, so I made this piece:

The plan is to basically glue it between the wing and the body, and generally make the wing much more solid. Yes, even though it's clear, it's still quite noticeable; but at a glance it's quite subtle and far less of an eyesore than the basic spare wing.

Just wondering if anyone had come up with a better solution before I glue this in place...

Many of us have faced the same prob with Group C cars. I've got a Sauber C9 that frequently lost its wing, so I reinforced the pillar with a paper clip. Straightened it out, cut it up into short bits and carefully glued them into place with Araldite.

It took a long time but the result is a fortified wing that hasn't detached itself since. Wish I could post a pic to show you, but I can't recall where I put the car.

I've got four Slot.it 787Bs and each one has broken its wing! Mine have all been repaired with SuperGlue, repeatedly. Quite ugly, but effective!

Your piece of clear perspex looks as though it will be efficient, but it isn't pretty. I also wonder whether it will have a detrimental effect on the car's handling. How much does it weigh? Even if it's only a gram, it's a terrible place to add weight; high up and outside of the car's wheelbase. The weight/position disadvantage is why I've not added wire reinforcing to the struts of my cars' broken wings.

THIS is Genius! Is it nylon? and I'm guessing the clip is to hold a magnet for the wing...
Indeed Dingleberry, it's printed in Nylon, SLS printed. It's more flexible then the standard wing holder.
It's designed to glue the wing on the new mount. Because I couldn't provide magnets or something else on Shapeways.

The glue I use for these kind of linkage, is Bison Tix. It's strong enough, and if necessary it can be removed again.

Yeah, like that! Shame about the shipping cost to the UK. Definitely going to ponder that though...
I know, that's always a shame for such small parts.
I'll try to stock them on my own website, so the price could be dropped a bit.
