My thoughts!

Certain collectors have more money than........

I have just never understood why, if something is er.......rare........it is necessarily of any value. This is a slot car and, it seems unlikely that it will be very good and in any case, will sit in someone's safe and never be put to its intended purpose.

Nowt as queer as folks.

oddly a Subbuteo collector just said the same thing on another forum I posted on

quote from my mate Bazza:

Absolute madness. My car will get me to Scotland and back and is worth ÂŁ200. The scalextric car will never be used as the new owner will be too scared to put it on the track and hence will sit in it's box for another 30 years. Be it scalextric or subbuteo these items were made to be played with and not just put in a display cabinet to be admired by someone with more money than sense.

C70 not C95, different guide and silver (non-race tuned) motor.

Looks genuine, from a dealer that seems to find other rare stuff. Danger is there are a lot of copies about...

Some thing not right with whats going on here!! most bids happen in the last few hours of the time limit, not 15 bids in the early days!

The seller has 8500 transaction! perhaps they know how to sell at a high price!

If the sale is pukker??? How does a buying Numtey end up with so much spare money

Im just wondering if the person who bought this "object" is a forum member ?

i, and many others would love them to post there reasons for buying what

after all a VERY poor rendition of that particular Bugatti, if you could clearly

say it was a fine model, then, may be, may be,

Its just a crude molding, with little or no detailing, come on my friend be brave.

let us know who you are and your reason for buying such an object.

The ONLY way (thanks Phil S) is if the car has black marking impregnated into the plastic. Otherewise NEVERspend this kind of money without validating that it is original first. (physically handling it, checkinm for resin etc)

No reflection on seller - they may have been duped as well as fakes are very difficult to tell apart.

I think basically she has a very good reputation, I have used her many times with zero problems.

She does seem to get high prices, sometimes well over the going rate for common cars too....fair play to her, wish I could!

However at 3 large I'd be concerned my current top bidder had zero feedback, could be a jealous trader/punter shill bidding the auction to ruin it and invoke lack of confidence......seen it happen many times

Personally ive a few grand tucked away for Scalex purchases but I can't justify 3 grand on a single car, but maybe others can and do?

I'm currently mulling over the asking price of ÂŁ300 for a green Electra which seems a little toppy in my eyes.

Anyone out there owning an undamaged light/lime/grass/apple green Scalextric C15 Mirage please let me know

The C95 does look a bit peculiar but, as they were assembled by hand in small batches various things could have changed with time.

The pictures below show cars I know for certain to be the genuine article and several differences are immediately apparent. The ebay one has the wrong colour driver, the space for the Bugatti label on the radiator is in the wrong place, the wheels are from a C70 and the colour is way too dark, although that may be down to photographic aberrations.

As the alleged C95 is not for sale though, is it of any real consequence?

No, but this is why it looks 'odd' to me, grill colour also diff and if I'm being picky the nuts silver not black.

Blues a million miles off, light or no light, also steering wheel brown looks too dark.

Not saying the 70 is a wrongun OR the 95 but I'm getting alarm bells esp the 95

put it this way there's 6 'ums' here...never seen 6 variations on a c59 lol

The 70 looks ok poss repro tires (?)....dunno....I'm seeing other things now too, glad its not my 3 grand....i'm up to ten 'ums' now and that's only on visual.

Hi

Very rare items usually escalate in price very quickly in my experience especially with slot cars, buyers trying to physche each other out .

Ah, but have you got a translucent orange electra?

Saw a lime mirage for ÂŁ50 recently, but the front was damaged, very brittle those ones...

And yes I am 100% with Brian on the C95, and the grill appears to be just clear plastic. All worryingly wrong

Depends; many "plated" plastic parts are done over clear plastic material because it allows the bright work to shine more. If too much mold release is sprayed between injection, the plating deposit will not stick and over time simply fall off the part. We see that a lot on old Revell kits. Hence it is possible, likely, that the Bug is authentic.
And of course I will not comment on the value or rarity, but frankly, I have seen less rare slot cars in kit of RTR forms sell for a LOT more over the past 20 years.

Hi Riko, no I haven't a translucent orange Electra, have you one to post up?

Re lime Mirage I have heard before they are brittle, any idea why?...and at 50 i would have left it tbh

You don't get light through a normal one. Only ever seen 2 of these, not enough for a lightshade!

The tiger is the same shade as a normal electra, there are some slight variations, but the translucent one you can see the internal structure and even the motor through the plastic!
