after all the years of suffering being called a miserable old bar-steward by mrs zz , I am finally rejoicing that she has come round to my way of thinking. the source of this wonderment?... a newly found joint loathing of the foul phenomenon of otherwise seemingly intelligent individuals starting a sentence with the word "so"!!!! if you have been asked , "how do you propose to re-attach that button"? , or , "what method would you use to distribute seed in your garden" , fair enough but otherwise , nooooooooooo! other current hot favourites are "yoofs" with their kecks hanging out the top of their trousers and newly qualified drivers with a green p plate (clearly designating pillock) who refuse to commit to crossing a roundabout without having received a written invitation at least a fortnight in advance! what gets your hackles up?

you eat tellys for breakfast?
:-D
The airfare thing is annoying. It is the same cost to fly Frankfurt Germany -> New York City -> Denver -> Denver -> Detroit -> Detroit -> Frankfurt as it is to fly to Detroit directly...

I also hate that you have to pay a TON of money for reservations. I have 2 kids, under 18, like I want to run the risk of not sitting next to them for an 8 hour flight.

Is the airline going to babysit them for me?!
My goodness... they can get vicious:
and the sounds they make can cause nightmares!
OK so let me add a little to this pile. My wife has been severely ill since early December of 2016. There were times where I could not leave her side and she was sometimes acting like a totally different person.

She is doing better now but still not 100%.

We all talk about being healthy and happy and all that but when it hits you like it did me it borders on the level of panic soldiers must feel when a battle breaks out.

Part of you wants to flee, part says you have to stay.

The point is you know you found the right one when you literally will go through hell and high water for her (or him...whatever's your pleasure...)

It's when she is having bad days I realize how much I love her and how much that love grows every day regardless of how she is feeling...

I know she didn't marry me for looks, my smooth buttery voice (I sound like mickey mouse after drinking chocolate milk) or my intelligence (
) so I see it a privilege to take care of her and the family as best I can...

I just cut down 16 trees with a chainsaw while bare-chested and fighting of giant mutant bears...

Oh.. and my lap times dropped by .069 seconds!
A friend of mine from Somerset said that beer in his local supermarket is now being sold in 500 ml bottles at the same price as for a pint...

Interesting...
<humor>That's why I only buy Eastern European cars! You only get half a working car to begin with!

</humor>

Just kidding.. I love my Skodas..

And the Great News Dacia Sandero!
Unless I am hungover I can't sleep past 8 or 8:30... except in the dead of winter when no sun comes out until nearly 9 or 9:30....

If the sun hits me I am up straight away....

The big problem I have is around 8 PM I get drowsy and unless I am doing something that is fun or dangerous I will conk out for 15-20 minutes... but after that I can stay up until 1 AM!
New Topic: People who don't complete the passing (overtaking) process as quickly as possible...

It is a particular problem here in Germany where you could be going 200 kmh (about 124 mph) in the left (outside) lane... so podunk dorkhead decides the car in the right (inside) lane is going to slow and pulls out going maybe 2-3 kmh (1-2 mph) faster....

GAWD!!!!!!

I learned that passing should be completed as quickly as possible. Many police officers have told me going 10 mph (16 kmh) over the speed limit to pass is OK as you are disrupting the flow of traffic as long as you get back in the right-hand (inside) lane as quickly as possible and slow down to the maximum allowed speed.
The police officer was an American ;-) course being the Midwest you can see for miles so there is no way a cop can "surprise" you in most places.

Yes there are speed limits on most of the Autobahn... in fact, when the limit is 120 kmh traffic flows better than unlimited because trucks (lorries) are only allowed to go 100 kmh people passing tend to drive only 105-110... when the limit is 120 they go 120....

ARGH
Websites that don't include vital information.

For example: Wanted to book a ski holiday including ski school and ski rental: Neither Ski school nor ski rental place have opening times on the website ANYWHERE!

Yes, I know that many countries have "traditional" opening times, for example for for almost 100 years stores were open until 6 PM in Germany and only until noon on Saturday but those rules have been defunked for nearly 2 decades!

I also wanted to look into 2 racing events: Neither website actually stated WHAT DAYS THE EVENTS TAKE PLACE!

I ended up googling it and finding the info on a different page all together...
I live on the French border so I am familiar with what you are saying for smaller i.e. non-franchise shops... What irks me about most French sites is when you have to type in the number of the department to find the store closest to you .. I had to google the department number of Alsace!
At that point I would drink half a bottle of vodka or whisky and hope the problem solves itself...
Here in Germany I am very very happy with the care we get.

The only exception is when someone has mental health issues as it seems there is a huge gap in what can be offered when but for physical ailments me and my family have been extremely well cared for.

The when I was working at a Uni in Germany a fellow prof made a comment the UK system was the worst in Europe... no clue how he could back that up though... When I asked about the US system he laughed and said it subsidized the rest of the world because the pay 5 to 10 times more than the rest and the people are stupid enough to go along with it. This was 1995 and his words not mine!
I remember back around 2008 I think price for milk here on the continent tripled because of Chinese demand... seemed totally stupid considering that many Asians are lactose intolerant... it all settled down after a few months.

As far as your vanilla extract friends are concerned I figure it is that same as winning the lottery... they got lucky... speculated well.

When the Icelandic banks went bust I know a lot of people were freaked out. When I talked to others I was shocked at the lack of sympathy. One guy even said "hey, you mess with the bull you get the horns..." where in my mind people were simply putting money in a bank with the best interest.. it should not have been more risky than the local bank...

Anyhoo... the whole profiteering thing though will always be around especially as long as we have publicly traded companies. Their number one success indicator is profit.

I think I have said this before.. I can actually taste bile when I see the statement "we have to produce in China/India/Mild Slave Labor Country so that we can offer <insert product> at a price people are willing to pay."

I mean, really, does it really hurt someone to pay 6.99€ instead of 4.99€ for a t-shirt? The rules of economics means that you can pass that money on and everyone will still be happy and "profitable".

Carrera for example produces in China and yes they invest thousands in development but I know that retailers make less than 10% profit on new cars. Cars that have been around for yonks must provide Carrera with a 30-40% margin. This is why I totally understand Hornby's current approach of making the same car with different liveries.

I think Hornby's fiscal year is now over. I sure hope the board agrees with their approach as it would be a huge loss to the industry and hobby if we lose them.
