I am after peoples opinions and experiences, good and bad, on the use of paper mache and plaster cloth for scenery. I plan to use rolled up newspaper to get the main structure and then finish off with either paper mache or plaster cloth.

No special pros and contras for one of the two methods. Only depends on what you like more: Playing with plaster or playing with glue.
I used steelmesh (usually used to keep the childrens rabbits in their place), stapled in place and covered with kitchenpaper bathed in liquid plaster. Cheap, dryes fast, keeps paint and glue well and can be easily removed from floor, wall and clothes in case of accidental use.
